Emily Lieberman is a mother, physician and mass shooting survivor. She's turning her experience into fuel for change and working to mobilize others in the medical profession to join the fight to end mass shootings.

Highland Park resident Dr. Emily Lieberman, shown on Nov. 10, 2022, in Glenview, has spearheaded a medical outreach arm of the organization March Fourth, which aims to have assault rifles banned through federal legislation.

Lieberman, her daughter and parents sought refuge inside a single-occupancy bathroom at a winery storefront, with about a dozen others. The adults held their children in their laps, she said, so their bodies could shelter theirs. Now, as a mother, physician and mass shooting survivor, Lieberman is turning her experience into fuel for change through March Fourth, a foundation founded shortly after the Highland Park shooting to advocate for a federal assault rifle ban. She wants to reframe gun violence as a public health crisis and has worked nationwide to mobilize others in the medical profession to join the fight to end mass shootings.

Brandtner, a mom of three, said the issue “hit home” after she was forced to protect her children — who were dressed in red, white and blue with tiny American flags ― from an active shooter. She said she felt helpless and turned to social media for answers. In the days following the shooting, the foundation began to take shape. When Brandtner founded March Fourth, focused on organizing a rally in Washington, D.C., to call for a ban on assault weapons.

Elliot Lieberman said the couple turned to activism as a means of healing and coping with the trauma. The pair realized that as mass shooting survivors with medical expertise, they held a “unique voice that has not been told.”Felix and Kimberly Rubio, who lost their daughter Lexi in the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, march in a rally calling for a federal ban on assault weapons on July 13, 2022, in Washington, D.C.

“As soon as we start medical school, we swear, by the Hippocratic oath, that we will do no harm, and we dedicate our lives to protecting others and keeping them safe and healthy,” she said. “That is exactly what I intend to do, not just in the four walls of my practice, but in our nation in general.

In July, for the first time in almost 20 years, lawmakers passed a measure to reinstate the expired federal ban., which March Fourth lobbied for, bans the selling, manufacturing and possession of assault weapons. The bill now goes to a vote by the Senate.

How about she tackle the demise of 2 parent households in the black communities & label that as a 'public health crisis,' the low high school graduation rates by blacks, low employment rate of black males, & the exceptionally high violent crimes committed by blacks in Chicago?

...maybe vote for candidates that actually LOCK UP PEOPLE and not create 'laws' they don't even enforce.

I believe, America has a moral issue...

Do what you want with guns, but this was a depressed drug user with a history of violent threats. The Highland Park police should have had a plan to secure the event. The carnage could have been greatly reduced had they done their jobs.

That would not fit the dumbaquack narrative. They LOVE this and are doing everything they can to keep the fires going. Better make better choices at the ballot to begin with.

If it involves taking guns from the law abiding citizen, count me out. When will people understand...they want us unable to defend ourselves.

More drug use, more unwed moms = more shootings

And Congress has blocked funding to CDC re research of gun violence as a health crisis issue. So there's that.

Who got to you to repeat this liberal agenda crap

Again we need to enforce existing gun laws. We need to stop pleading down crimes when guns are used in a crime. We need to make sure mental healthcare is expanded.

Our 'public health' system performed so well during covid that someone wants to extend it to non-medical jurisdiction.

So she wants to fire Kim Foxx and JB…. I’m all for it.

Yeah, that will never happen. If Gabby Giffords' attack couldn't stir 'policymakers' to act, nothing will.
