The hacker, or hackers, behind the Medibank cyber attack have re-emerged after several days of online silence, releasing more private health information on the Dark Web. 9News

k have re-emerged after several days of online silence, releasing more private health information on the Dark Web.

Having released information last Monday and stating they would "hope something meaningful happens on Wednesday", an assumed reference to the Medibank AGM, the hacker this morning released their largest batch of data to date.Medibank has begun confirming to customers what information of theirs has been stolen.

9News is choosing not to reveal the name of those files, or the health conditions they relate to, but can say that the conditions would fall into some of the most deeply personal areas of healthcare. Today's release takes the total number to over 2700 records released, and while there are names repeated within the files, it's likely over 2500 Australian's are affected by these leaks of stolen data.Threats to individuals for ransom or extortion have not yet been circulated, however as time rolls on and Medibank sticks strong to it's decision not to pay the ransom, the Cyber Security community believes a direct to consumer attack is the most likely next step for the hackers.

Medibank continues to reach out to affected customers, offering direct support, while the AFP continues their investigation into the hackers.

Medibank should NOT pay these criminals. Do it for 1, then they will all be hacking for an easy income. Instead, funnel the money into compensating the clients who have had their personal data exposed and making IT systems 100% hacker proof. Get this 1 right Medibank!

9NewsSyd Medibank refused to pay ransom, because they don’t care that private information has been released. So…who’s going to be fired or go to prison for not securing their systems? No one?

🥱

9NewsPerth The Australian government is as useless as always 😂 they take your tax dollars and wipe the ass with it.

BuggaThe And the governments solution is to have a Digital ID with all your personal information stored in the one place and on your phone. No thanks

😂……

9NewsQueensland medibank refund a years premiums.

There’s no hackers. It’s a false flag operation to push the digital ID 🤦🏻‍♂️

9NewsQueensland The CEO and top execs got paid their bonuses, total of $7.3m but they refused to pay the hackers to protect their clients data from being leaked on the dark Web! They should all be fired, not rewarded.
