Executive director Ashley Drew said as far as she knows, the Her Recovery Centre is one of the only treatment facilities in Alberta that accommodates children whose moms are in treatment.Article content Psychiatrist Dr. Avi Aulakh, the facility’s medical director, said that’s an important part of breaking down barriers for women who want to seek addictions treatment.

“Shame and stigma in seeking help, it impacts everybody, but much more women with children. There are so many stereotypes: ‘You should know better, you have kids’ — and that also interferes in their ability to seek help,” he said.
