A federal judge in Fort Worth agreed Wednesday with a group of Christian conservatives that Affordable Care Act requirements to cover HIV prevention drugs violate their religious freedom.

“The virus doesn’t choose who to infect, it can infect anyone,” said Dr. Satish Mocherla, an infectious disease specialist at Legacy Community Health Services in Houston. “So why a particular demographic is being targeted is a mystery to us.”

Kelley was previously the named plaintiff in the case, but the name was changed last month “because the media coverage of this case has triggered a wave of threats and cyberbullying” against Kelley,The lawsuit specifically addresses PrEP, but O’Connor’s ruling, which addresses how the federal government can decide what preventive care is covered in employer health care plans, may end up having much more wide-reaching consequences, Hoffman said.

While implementation has not been as universal as hoped, fully funded preventive care through the ACA has been shown to be largely effective at improving health outcomes, reducing health care spending and“The idea that an employer can shop a la carte for policy coverage goes against what we have learned over the last decade in the effort to end the HIV epidemic,” said Carlo, the former Dallas County health director.

Allowing companies to drop free coverage would prevent many of Legacy’s patients from being able to afford the treatment, Mocherla said, and would reverse that historic trend of declining HIV rates.

If this moves up chain through the Courts, we know how this ends in another religious liberty win. Why bother.

Ok, that's their prerogative. Lots of companies have lists of meds that they don't cover. They aren't required to cover every single medication out there.

There is not tenant of any branch of Christianity that allows withholding of care for the sick.

“If the Supreme Court rules for (the plaintiffs) completely, it would blow up the entire preventive services provision of the ACA,” This CRIPPLES PreventiveMedicine: It will translate to worse outcomes and higher costs for all. Judicial activism is deadly.

Despicable. HIV is not a “gay” disease and doctors, not bigots, should decide which meds to prescribe.

And the big pharma, that right-wingers love to tag on, is laughing

HIV is not limited solely to any one social group, so how justify that?

Those Conservative fake Christians have every right to not take the drug. Where is it written their rights are being violated by themselves being force to take it?

People need to start following Classic Jesus instead of Republican Jesus.

Such nonsense. The quality of the judiciary, together with its relationship with common sense and logic has been seriously degraded

TaxTheChurches

FakeChristians

This is so disgusting.. I can’t stand those bigots. Mind your own business!!!!!!!!!

How is fighting a disease that ANYONE can get against religious belief?

A group of cultist, Christian bigots. Fixed it for you. There is nothing conservative about denying life-saving drugs to Americans.

Tax the church

We need to tax tf out of these 'christian' churches that keep shoving their noses in politics and keep trying to force feed us their hypocrisy

A clear violation of the affordable care act and medical ethics in general. Disgusting. Judge needs to be removed from the bench for a misinterpretation of the law and clear bias

Do they also oppose blue dick pills? Or does that mesh with their religious freedom?

Good

They need not carry Viagra either since the Bible says sex is just for procreation.

A religious group has No Right to impose its beliefs on All of Society.

How is preventing HIV have anything to do with religion? Christians have totally become irrelevant in 2022.

Where in the Bible does it say being cheap is a human right?

Seems to me, that if you want the right to employ people in America, there are certain things you must do, like it or not. Many Americans don't like how our tax dollars are spent, either. I'm guessing the courts wouldn't give us the time of day.

So, religious freedoms override public safety? Backwards country!!!!

New depths of evil.

TaxTheChurches and tax exempt conservative Non-profits .

Violation of their religious freedoms. What in the entirety of 1985-dumbfckery suggests that HIV gives a rat's ass about your religion. Fun Fact: ANYONE can get HIV/AIDS, not just homosexuals. Are we really going over this again?

So who gets medical treatment nowadays is all about vibes?

What happened to the separation of church and state? What happened to individual rights? What sick company would deny anyone a drug that could prevent misery and death?

Texas never failing to disappoint

They’re free to not take them.

gal_suburban have you seen what this “conservative christian” group is doing 😳🤬🤬

No it doesn't.

Any decision that is 'companies don't need to follow laws because it violates the religious freedom of companies' is simply garbage legal reasoning.

Christians are monsters. Jesus would not recognize them.

Then they don't have to take it, but we all know they can't call it punishment by God if there is a cure or preventive so of course they would be against it to fit their religious agenda of brainwashing people with hate and division

They realize ANYONE can get HIV/AIDS right

Why can’t these people just mine their own goddamn business. I stay in my lane stay in yours!!
