Franciscan Health's Caring Cradle is the first of its kind in the city and only the second in the Hoosier state. It provides comfort to families grieving the loss of stillborn babies.

INDIANAPOLIS — Mementos are all Aly Bentley has to remind her of her first daughter, Evelyn. Evelyn was stillborn at 23 weeks in 2019.

"She's my only sister. And to watch her go through all that heartache is just incredibly difficult," Harden said. "Having that time in the room to hold your child, bathe your child, dress your child, those are instrumental things that you'll never get back," Aly said. But it was. It took White ten years to come to terms with the experience, and helping other families going through the same thing is a way to heal. The cooling cradle has been at Franciscan for about a year, and 22 families have used it.

The women are now raising money for a second cradle for Franciscan's other location. You can donate on the Franciscan Health Foundation's website.

My first son was stillborn in 1976, they took him away and I barely had a glimpse. I was young and let them do it but I wish I had had some time with him, a photo. This post breaks my heart but I am glad that sort of thinking is not normal now.

Guess this is something at least, for all those women being forced to birth a dead fetus because GQP forced-birth/anti-choice old white men can't keep their religious bull crap to themselves.
