The department said the cases, which were reported to public health between the end of July and Aug. 8, were identified in Anjou and Mercier-Ouest.

“There is no need to worry for the population of eastern Montreal, except to remain vigilant for the appearance of symptoms similar to those of pneumonia or evensuch as high fever, chills, cough, fatigue, muscle aches or loss of appetite,” Montreal public health said in an email on Wednesday. It transmits through contaminated droplets, which can travel long distances in the air, though chances of catching the disease are very low. Symptoms can appear from two to 10 days after exposure.Several cases of the disease are signalled to Montreal public health every year, it said.
