In a memo by Minister Joe Phaahla, dated 02 June 2022, it is stated that there has been a decline in several “critical indicators”, such as a decline in reported cases, hospitalisations, and deaths.

Based on these indicators, the National Department of Health proposed on the morning of 20 June that regulation 16C no longer need to be in place at the present moment. The President’s Coordinating Council on COVID-19 is expected to consider ratifying the recommendations when it meets on Wednesday as reported by
