Health Canada’s drawn out plan to add warning label on ground beef sparks debate

Health organizations are calling on Ottawa to move forward with its proposed food warning labels, expressing concerns that further debate over ground meat could delay a critical program that’s already long overdue.

But according to health groups – including those who support a ground-meat exemption – any delay would be a mistake.“It’s been seven years of discussion,” said Manuel Arango, director of health policy and advocacy at the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Ms. Besner said the labels will not only help consumers make better choices, but also push food manufacturers to reformulate their products into healthier ones.

The new labels would be required for any foods high in sugar, salt or saturated fat – any prepackaged food product with more than 15 per cent of the daily recommended intake. Already, the government has said that it intends to allow exemptions for many products, including some dairy and whole meat – specifically, raw, single-ingredient meat. But ground meat, which is considered “minimally processed,” was not included in the exemptions.

Globe do you deliberately lie

Not a warning label a

Takes government 7+ years to make a food label, pumps out and mandates experimental vaccine in under a year.

Nuts.

Then politicians need to wear warnings labels stating anything that comes out of their cake holes can have negative mental health effects.

Beef is one of the most nutritious foods out there 🤙

Tell the truth on the label

Same Health Canada that terrorized Canadians with useless covid lockdowns, masks and and Gene therapy disguised as a vaccine? Moderna's ceo's words not mine.

Now do all your processed shit food.

All meat food products should come with a warning label.

Have you seen the unhealthy people at health Canada. They can back off, especially after that last hoax! Do you think we believe you

All food items should have straightforward “traffic light” labelling (red, amber, green) for 3-5 most important aspects (saturated fats, sugar, salt etc) this would make it easier for people to make healthier choices

Curious to know what dairy products will carry a warning label. Article only states that some dairy will be exempted.

How about Health Canada label all the GMOs with a warning as well as farm raised salmon & shrimp and all the processed foods just to name a few.

I prefer pork or chicken, and especially fish, but I guess we'll start eating more beef.

No, it sparked outrage. It’s another attack against rural farmers. These Toronto city slickers have no business running Canada.

One of the most nutritional foods on the market 🤦‍♂️

Health-care workers call for government help as burnout worsens and staff shortages increase | CBC NewsHealth-care workers and health sector organizations say the high rate of burnout and staff shortages in hospitals across the country has become 'endemic' — and they’re calling on the federal government to sit down with provinces and territories to find solutions. Considering how much money they paid compared to us, what is to complain about? Oh well...increasing drinking opportunities across the country should certainly help reduce the workload. At some point we need to start looking at the big picture on issues like this. So has it been for home caregivers, and yet the govt doesn't give a shit. Benefits would help for those in need. Mixed emotions from Saskatchewan on proposed beef packaging health warning labels | Globalnews.caThe proposal by Health Canada to introduce mandatory front-of-package nutrition labelling for pre-packaged foods high in sodium, sugar and saturated fat. The last thing the food industry needs is for people to know what their digestive system has deal with. Now do fentanyl and meth! I would have to trouble with this IF it applied to all meat products including the pretender items like Beyond Meat....if people need this information they need ALL of it and the alternatives are often way worse than the real thing.
