GP health allocates R1.1 billion for Covid-19 posts and infrastructure

The announcement came two weeks after 91 doctors and nurses, who were contracted for the pandemic at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg, complained they were not paid last month.

Mokgethi said in the 2022/23 financial year, the department was allocated R59.4 billion and a further R178.2 billion over the this year medium-term expenditure framework. With this allocation the department intends to transform the health system and improve the quality, safety and overall coverage of health services it provides to the citizens of Gauteng. There is also R1.5 billion allocated for the comprehensive health response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said R7.4 million was earmarked for training and capacitating the community health workers and other health professionals. The absorption of community health workers into the staff establishment has increased the personnel headcount by about 8 400. These health workers have become a critical component of our healthcare value chain, they do a commendable job with communities. They also act as a point of first contact with the primary health care system.

The MEC said another priority area was the mental health programmes as mental disorders were prevalent and were responsible for the poor quality of life and increased mortality.

But it can't be Covid19....why are those posts not permanent because it frustrates workers to find themselves without jobs after 6months or a year. There us shortage of personnel and you name posts Covid19? It can't be,casualisation my fall

The Health Department is like a 'leaky bucket'. No matter how much money is poured in, it will leak out without adding discernible value to patients. Incompetent management, lack of leadership, corruption and lack of consequence management will ensure a downward spiral.

Imagine for a second how much money that is! And how long the precious few, honest, tax paying folk need to work to earn this pile of loot. Then consider how easy it is for this department to urinate it into the nearest sloot. Now get back to work - they need your support.

ANC comrade smile 😃
