A 60-year-old man in Germany said he got vaccinated against COVID-19 dozens of times to sell forged vaccination cards with real vaccine batch numbers to others who don’t want to get a shot, according to The Associated Press.

German police have carried out numerous raids in recent months for vaccine card fraud, the AP reported, as some unvaccinated people have sought a card to access venues that require proof of vaccination, such as restaurants, theaters, and some workplaces.

Germany has reported high COVID-19 case numbers in recent weeks due to the BA.2 Omicron subvariant, the AP reported. At the same time, mostsafety protocols ended last week, and masks are no longer required in most public spaces. Public health experts have said the most recent surge of infections in Germany may have peaked, the AP reported.
