NSW Health Minister guarantees Ashes Test will stay in Sydney | malcolmconn

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has guaranteed the fourth Ashes Test in Sydney will take place next week despite current state regulations which could force the match to be abandoned.

There were fears the Sydney Test would have to be abandoned if a similar scenario arose for the fourth Test, with questions also hanging over the fifth Test in Hobart. “I want to assure the cricket loving public, under our rules any players with exposure to a known case of COVID-19 would be asked to test and isolate only until a negative result was received.“If there are any cases within the teams, their support staff, or families, we will work with the people involved to ensure they are safe, and there is as little disruption to others as possible.

There had been serious fears among officials overnight that the Boxing Day Test was at risk of being abandoned. One member of the England camp had reported symptoms on Sunday night and by the following morning four people had tested positive to COVID. Victoria’s rules meant that members of Channel Seven’s commentary team were back at the MCG by Monday afternoon after being sidelined from the start of play due to a case. Both teams are already under level four restrictions preventing them from eating indoors or attending bars, and only shopping by click and collect.

malcolmconn He guaranteed NSW that while numbers would go up when rules were relaxed the gov had prepared and planned for it and health and testing would cope. But importanly, this is different , the SCG trust demands that nothing stops this going ahead

malcolmconn Prioritising commercial sports profits over public health. The satire of 1980s and 1990s comedy shows is now our reality. supports NSW Govt throwing off lockdowns because advertising revenue increases when Sydney is 'Open.'

malcolmconn Who gives a fuck. Concentrate, you are not there to clarify Cricket matches. You are fucking there to protect the vulnerable.

malcolmconn There was never any question about the MCG Test going ahead. And what a wicket, crowd and event Victoria delivered. NSW talked a lot about living with COVID. It seems to be struggling with the reality of actually having to ... live with COVID.

malcolmconn Evey chance that Sydney's test match, with current NSW COVID infection rates, will be a super spreading event like no other. Big tip...stay at home and watch it from the safety of your lounge room.

malcolmconn Was never even in question in Melbourne. So much for living with the virus.

NSW health worker isolation halved in bid to deal with 2000 absencesNSW Health last night said close household contacts "essential to service delivery" would be able to leave isolation and return to work after seven days instead of 14. GoodnewsisalbowillbePMsoon NSW health know they (or Brad and Dom) have opened pandoras box and theres nothing they can do about it. still waiting for results at day 6, and people who should also be staying at home waiting are now leaving saying “if we’re all going to get it why stay in iso”. A mess!!! Why not use hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin to end the pandemic? Like India and Japan.
