Interstate travellers into the Sunshine State will no longer need to undertake one of two PCR tests after the government received new advice from its Chief Health Officer and backlash from the New South Wales government.

Day five testing after arriving into the Sunshine State will be removed after seven-day data showed only 0.6 per cent of people being swabbed were returning positive results.

"We could have waited a couple of days ... but we don't want to do that. There are people today who can get on enjoying time with family and friends and their holidays and not lining up for day five tests." It will take"a couple of days" for the system to be updated before the testing question is removed from the application form.

Queensland recorded another surge in cases with 1,158 new infections. There are six residents hospitalised with none in hospital intensive care units.Residents who receive positive results have been stressed to to not head to a hospital emergency department if they are feeling"relatively well". Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said new data showed only 0.6 per cent of people were testing positive. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Dan Peled
