5,483 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed this evening, one of the highest daily figures so far in the pandemic. CMO Dr Tony Holohan said the numbers were an indication of the increase in the incidence of the disease across almost all age groups. |

The Department of Health has confirmed 5,483 new cases of Covid-19, in what Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has called "one of our highest ever daily figures of confirmed cases".Of these, 96 people are being treated in ICU, a decrease of one from yesterday.

Dr Holohan added the importance of keeping contacts low and avoiding crowds, wearing a mask correctly and avoiding poorly ventilated indoor spaces. It said this was due to extremely high numbers of attendances to emergency departments and the urgent care centre. Professor Martin Cormican said that the vaccine has provided a "floodwall for Ireland", but people still need to adhere to public health guidelines.

He said: "Before you think about doing your antigen test, the first thing to do is ask yourself are you feeling well, because if you've got symptoms of a viral respiratory tract infection, you shouldn't go anywhere and the testing doesn't matter in that sense.

Does the vaccine stop you from spreading the virus or does it offer the individual protection from severe illness? This reporting makes it seem like the vaccine protects others when it only protects yourself.

I suppose the unvaccinated are still to blame are they😂😂

Are these antigen tests going to be subsidized?

sick of this. We've followed the rules/ guidelines. We've been vaccinated. Now it's just not enough. What weeks are we meant to do to protect ourselves and (more importantly) the vulnerable? Are we just meant to wing it and just accept that about more people are going to die

Maybe its time to set up some concentration camps.

Best not mention 1200 of those were from unreported backlog Clowns

what he didn't say is that his and his government's policy choices have caused this. he'll never admit that.

Deaths ard low because of vaccination.....

First they blamed the unvaccinated. Now they accept vaccines not working . The thing is a load of bollox

18 months later and in even worse shit than before 🤣 comical.

Just in time for a Christmas lockdown, didn’t see that coming at all.
