Health and family violence groups have accused the Andrews government of failing to crack down on alcohol delivery services supplying drink to children and intoxicated people.
Delivery drivers must also check a person’s physical ID upon delivery if they appear to be under 25. It is an offence to deliver to a minor or an intoxicated person.Alcohol Change Victoria – a group including the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education, the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Salvation Army – is calling for deliveries to be restricted to between 10am and 10pm to reduce the risks of family violence. The government’s bill allows sales from 7am to 11pm.
The bill will soon be debated in the State Parliament’s lower house, and while it is unclear how the opposition will vote, the Greens are pushing for amendments. She said licensees would be required to have age-verification processes on their website and must ensure that same-day deliveries are not left at unattended residences.
This code includes a ban on same-day, unattended deliveries, age identification procedures, mandatory training for all delivery drivers, and self and third-party exclusion requests.
