MMA: Contract extension for doctors shouldn’t be long-term solution, open up more permanent posts

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — Contract extension announced by the government today for medical officers, dental officers and pharmacists is not a long-term solution towards the problem, the Malaysian Medical Association said.

“Besides this, the current proposal of a contract extension needs to be reviewed as other factors that may delay specialisation should be taken into account,” said MMA president Datuk Dr Subramaniam Muniandy in a statement. “The prime minister also stated that MMA should be involved in healthcare-related policies for the government to get a better picture of the situation on the ground,” said Dr Subramaniam.
