Victoria Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton has defended his decision to fly to Canberra for a work event while much of the state were still restricted from travel, saying it was necessary to attend in person. 9News

Mr Sutton has been criticised this week by the Victorian Liberals, who said that although the trip did not break any official rules, it was setting a bad example.

While Mr Sutton defended his actions, he also expressed his regret, saying that he wished he had not been the focus of the event."You can't really honour people for their fantastic research without being there in person. Acting Victoria Premier James Merlino also weighed in on the trip, labelling Mr Sutton's decision "appropriate".

Hasn’t he heard of zoom meetings ? Maybe he thinks he above the law ?

People 350kms from Melbourne can’t attend the funeral of a ‘ lost’ 8 year old child but it’s ok for this guy to go interstate to on some junket against his own rules!!! 😤😤. Great leadership!!

Bullshit

Who cares

It's appropriate he attends an awards night but it's not appropriate for family to attend a funeral, grub.

He just likes staying at QT

In your face plebians... these people can do whatever they please.. but if you dare to violate the rules... you will be sent to gaol

Everyone able to travel for work, lay off haters

No excuses. Disgraceful. Highlights what a bubble he and the politburo live in.

Fucken rat 🐀

The prime minister went overseas. Mr Sutton went to work .who cares.

one rule for them..... another for the rest of us! did he also stop at a pub for lunch mask less and less than 1.5m like scomo? 🤔

stinkers...

But anyone else from other parts of the Gov can go anywhere even around the world & even on holiday without an issue.

Should he have travelled to ACT .... probably not Did he maskup the entire time - don't know , but bet he did. Good look .... no . Meanwhile ScoMo and his hangers-off-s travelled to UK and ScoMo is getting special treatment as are his travel mates .

Junket

It is a shame that idiots put him in the position that he had to justify doing his job.

then why was it 3 other CHO's didn't fly in? you flog Sutton

sQomospubcrawl2021 .

Is this like a Big News?

Hardly necessary if 3 others CHOs stay home and dial in on video conference

why haven't you criticised every cho. biased garbage

Sutton “You can't really honour people for their fantastic research without being there in person. “ But it’s different honouring ppl when it comes to funeral. POS

He did NOT say it was necessary to attend in person. He said he was asked to attend in person if possible so he did, as he does daily go outside his 25kms for work purposes. You people really don't GAF about facts, happy to lie and misrepresent!
