Medical deliveries by drone are ready for take-off in Australia, with startup Swoop Aero expecting to start bringing medicines to regional patients in May.has signed a deal with chemist chain TerryWhite Chemmart, and the first deliveries will be out of a pharmacy in Goondiwindi in the south of Queensland. Drones will be used to deliver medicines to customers within a 130 kilometres range of the town, sparing them trips of up to three hours to visit the pharmacy.

“Having that ability now if they are not well or if they have a sick child at home to deliver medication to them will be great,” she said. “There is a carrier area that we can put a package into and it carries up to three kilograms in cold storage. So if we are doing a flu vaccination clinic at a little town and we run out of stock we could get the drone to deliver more.”

“Right from the early days we knew there was a lot of demand for this in Australia,” he said. “This is something quite new for Australia, carriage of medical supplies across across state lines over long distance by drone, it’s really exciting.”

carawaters Wonderful!

carawaters Amazing

carawaters Ok, so people can’t shoot them down & steal the drugs?

carawaters So long as they don’t fly over sacred sites...

carawaters How does the drone keen the vaccine cold 🥶

LazarusLong13 carawaters That's exceptionally cool and as far as I know (which is not that far) is the first actual use of drones to deliver products to consumers.

carawaters I'm guessing the original inspiration came from illegal drug runners.

carawaters Good on you Aussies! Same has been done in Sweden since last year:

carawaters Awesome use of tech.

carawaters This is genuinely pretty cool. They could take over regional auspost too so anything bigger than an envelope can actually be delivered to your house.

Robnda216 carawaters Sure, but can this be done with KFC?

carawaters Who is to say some losers won't shoot them down and steal the products?
