A new study adds to existing evidence that COVID-19 may have long-term effects on heart health, even in relatively young people with only mild illness.

from China suggest people with cardiovascular disease were more than three times as likely to develop severe, rather than mild, COVID-19. Patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease had fatality rates five times higher than those who did not.on Monday, adds to existing evidence. The study looked at magnetic resonance scans of 100 patients about three months after they had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

"They are suggesting that a significant number – a very high number – has evidence of damage," Professor Graham said. "This adds more evidence to the fact that the infection is unusual in its specificity for the heart."
