The annual study of America’s 100 largest cities looks at 33 health indicators in two broad categories: personal health and community/environment. The personal health rankings measure 18 qualities, such as rates of walking, running, or biking to work, percentage of people exercising within the past 30 days, as well as prevalence of obesity, asthma, and heart disease and rates of pedestrian fatalities.

Three cities made significant moves up the chart this year: Buffalo, New York ; Anchorage, Alaska ; and Toledo, Ohio , all jumped by more than 15 spots in the 2020 study.For fitness fanatics in North Las Vegas, Nevada, Bakersfield, California, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the news is not as good. Those cities were the bottom three finishers among the country’s top 100. Oklahoma City held the 100th-place ranking in 2019 as well.
