'If the family were on mainland Australia they could have easily arranged for the scan that Priya needs.'

There are concerns for the Biloela Tamil family controversially detained on Christmas Island after mother Priya Murugappan was evacuated for medical treatment.

Kopika and Tharunicaa, the daughters of the Biloela Tamil family at the detention centre on Christmas Island.Family lawyer Carina Ford said Mrs Murugappan had been unwell for two weeks and was no longer able to be treated at the small Christmas Island hospital. "At a time when Australia is facing an economic emergency, it’s completely unjustifiable to spend such money on the continued detention of our self-sufficient friends," she said.

Australian PM or other MPs should never, ever condemn or criticize China for Human Rights abuse. The Tamil family are in a prison and have been there for 2 years. PM is a member of Pentecostal church. Is this their teaching. Daughters Abbey and Lily would mot be proud...

gld301218 Makes me sad looking at this picture. How horribly this nasty government is treating them.

This family has dealt with so much. Our disgusting government refusing to do better is tiring.

This is a Systemic Criminal act by Australian Federal Gov. If any other People in Australia with similar circumstance and symptoms visit any other hospital, they would receive a CT Scan immediately and Not a Month Later! auspol Asylumseekers refugees HumanRights UN

Not Australia's problem.

jouljet The government is an absolute disgrace.

How much more cruelty is this family going to suffer in the government's effort to save face and prove a point? BringNayaHome

Travelling hours for a CT or MRI is standard fare for Australians living in the outback. Had to drive 4 hours for an ultrasound in the 80's

'severe abdominal pain' I'm betting she's faking it. We all know the drill. Once she's back in Perth they'll be back in the courts to stop her return to Christmas Is. and then all the activists will be crying about how terrible it is to split the family up to get the others here

Looks to me like the family are attempting to gain entry into Australia unlawfully and have been deceptive on their applications. They have chosen to bring innocent children into this world while in detention and now seem to be using them as pawns in their fight to stay here.

THIS PEOPLE STIL AROUND WHAT WE HAVE TO DO TO SEND THEM BACK TO THEY OWN COUNTRY they cost us millions they are not wellcome to stay in australia what a fricken wit family

MorpheusBeing How much did that Medevac cost ? Over $100, 000 or was it a commercial flight ? So cruel to keep this family locked up

deniseshrivell This is wickedness piled upon relentless, wilful wickedness. I hope Priya will get the care she needs while under care in Perth. The ghouls who have revelled in separating her from her family at this time are utterly beneath contempt

I'd rather people from peaceful backgrounds and cultures that Muslims anyway.

Deport.

is the attitude of the immigration minister representative of Australian people or he just plain arrogant.

deniseshrivell Activist doctors doing their best to circumvent Australian law again.

deniseshrivell The cruelty of this Morrison Govt is unforgiveable

They knew the score and they tried to emotionally blackmail Australians. They have nothing to complain about.

PrinPeta Australian government is splitting up children from parents. The whole family should have been transported to Perth.

'If the family had accepted numerous court rulings and returned bro Sri Lanka they could have easily arranged for the scan that Priya needs.'

Why does the media use this photo of them wearing Christmas hats?

If he hadn’t lied numerous times on the visa application they wouldn’t be there .

Our government can, on principal, easily flip the switch on folk from HK coming here while at the same time they can, on principal, waste hundreds of thousands locking up a family, with community support to stay in Australia, on Christmas Island for a year. What the.......?

If they had applied for asylum through the correct channels instead of attempting to sneak into the country illegally they wouldn't be stuck on Christmas Island.

Rubbish story.

This nonsense has got to stop!

Not our problem

The result of our fascist government and ignorant population.

Bullshit story, they broke the law by jumping the queue and coming here by boat, but she is still getting treatment she needs. Where's the story?

The whole exercise has demonstrated appalling ill treatment of the kids, first being raised in prolonged detention, and now unnecessarily separated from their mother. They should be living safely and humanely within our community while the legal process plays out.

US congressman who marched with Martin Luther King dies after 33 years in officeThe last surviving member of the 'Big Six activists who led the fight for civil rights in the 1960s dies aged 80 after starting treatment for pancreatic cancer late last year. Sad news. One of the good guys, who cared for the civil rights of all. RIP. Paul Kersey has the number on this dude. I think the ABC wants not just all the US to be like Selma today (black run and crime-ridden), but all Australia also.
