Tasmania will not ease its coronavirus border restrictions for at least another four weeks, Premier Peter Gutwein says, adding the state will keep a close eye on the situation in Victoria as it makes a final decision.

Tasmania will not ease its border restrictions until at least July 24, Premier Peter Gutwein says.

Mr Gutwein said the state would work on a safe pathway to reopen Tasmania's borders for the next month and would not reopen them until it was safe to do so.At a briefing, Mr Gutwein said the state needed adequate time to assess the impact ofHe said if public health advice on July 24, or in the immediate lead up, was to not reopen, "then very simply we will not reopen our borders".

"My role is to ensure Tasmanians are safe. The date is set for 24th … but we will keep an eye on what is happening right around the country," he said."If the public health advice is to maintain our border restrictions, we will maintain our border restrictions."
