Dr Noor Hisham: Health Ministry still investigating cause of death of Indian detainee

The man had been treated for Covid-19 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang before he was discharged, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Amdullah.

The 67-year-old man, who has been identified as Zeawdeen Kadar Masdar, died at the Bukit Jalil Immigration detention centre on June 12.Dr Noor Hisham said that the man showed no symptoms while being treated in MAEPS, but had co-morbidities such as high blood pressure and diabetes. “When he was being treated in MAEPS, he was healthy and was asymptomatic. After monitoring for a certain period, he was discharged because he did not display any symptoms and had recovered,” he said during a press conference on Covid-19 updates on Monday .“Maybe there are other factors that caused his death, perhaps a germ infection. We have taken swabs and have sent it to the lab. We are wanting for the results,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said they could only announce the findings once they received the report by the Forensics Department. “He might have been positive for Covid, but his death could have been caused by something else,” he said.
