Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año on Friday said protesters who will defy the government’s order against mass gatherings will be dispersed and advised to go home as the country continues to battle the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Kung wala naman tayo ganitong pandemic, kahit mag-rally sila araw-araw diyan hindi naman natin pipigilan yan kasi meron naman tayong freedom of expression ,” Año said during an interview over CNN Philippines.“Ang panawagan natin wag na silang mag-mass gathering ,” he said.

He said he already ordered the Philippine National Police to disperse those who will be participating in mass gatherings.“They will observe maximum tolerance and calibrated response,” the DILG chief assured.“Maraming paraan para ipakita nila ang kanilang protesta ,” he said. “Pero wag lamang yung tinatawag nating mass gathering kasi dapat malaman nila ang taas pa ng numero ng ating cases ,” he said.
