A second refugee protest is preparing to gather in Brisbane on Saturday, sparking fears protests could become an ongoing problem for the city.

The Free the Refugees protesters plan to place 120 pairs of shoes at Kangaroo Point as a symbol of the 120 people currently detained in a makeshift detention centre in Brisbane.

Authorities expressed concern the gatherings could see a spike in cases of COVID-19 after Victorian authorities revealed one of the state's positive cases allegedly attended a Black Lives Matter protest. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk reminded the public the state was still in the midst of a pandemic and people needed to abide by health orders. Queensland Police are yet to reveal whether people will be fined or charged for attending demonstrations.
