In honor of Gabe, Brooks partnered with her husband, Justin Grunewald, and friend Ladia Albertson-Junkans in designing a Brave Like Gabe Launch 7. Brooks will donate 100 percent of profits to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center on behalf of the Brave Like Gabe Foundation.“The funds will support a year-long fellowship for a postdoctoral researcher who specializes in rare-cancer research.
Justin will be involved in selecting the recipient from a group of candidates and is hoping that the researcher also reaps the benefits of being a runner,” but running certainly isn’t mandatory, says a Brooks rep.The shoe’s upper comes in the foundation’s signature blue color with the message “Running on Hope.” The Brave Like Gabe logo is stamped on the heel, and sparkly laces thread over the tongue in homage to Gabe’s optimistic spirit.
