Coronavirus: A third of hospital patients develop dangerous blood clots

Up to 30% of patients who are seriously ill with coronavirus are developing dangerous blood clots, according to medical experts.Severe inflammation in the lungs - a natural response of the body to the virus - is behind their formation.

And there have been other surprises, including the discovery of hundreds of micro-clots in the lungs of some patients. "That was when I really started to get worried. I got the picture that if I didn't improve then I would be in serious trouble."Brian's scan showed dangerous blood clots in his lungs from Covid-19

He believes the number of critically ill coronavirus patients developing blood clots could be significantly higher than the published data in Europe of up to 30%.

As in every ards..

IBtalking Glad to see somebody is tracking this information.

Yeah - give your childs teachers a blood clot a day eh ?

Why on earth aren't all BBC journalists uniting to defend democracy by refusing to cover any govt story until outrageous boycotts on ITV Piers Morgan, Channel 4 and BBC Newsnight are lifted? Bullies are created by cowards.

Yes, thrombotic events happening at high rates (even when patients are already on blood thinners) 31 % in a recent study. Not just DVT, PE but clotting in blood vessels under the skin, multiple organs with widely scattered clots (autopsy findings) etc.

What next.. tall , slim and fit ...

Due to lack of essential care

Probably something do do with most of these patients being unhealthy, obese or aged people, who tend to have more viscosity(thickness) in thier blood anyway. Add to that the crap that hospitals feed patients and it’s no surprise!

How many people have recovered from Covid-19 in the UK? It's a simple question, one that the government and mainstream media have failed to answer multiple times !

Aspirin can interfere with your blood's clotting action, and a daily dose is often presribed by doctors after a patient has had a heart attack or stroke. But self-medicating with daily aspirin is not recommended.

I read this two weeks ago in a US publication perhaps you should have instead of Boris bashing Oh it’s news!

This virus just keeps on giving!

Do they give Heparin as a matter of course when a patient is immobilised. They do in Spain....or is it that the patient develops a blood clot due to immobility?

Is that due to the virus or inactivity

When I was in hospital last year, I and everyone in the ward was given a blood thinner because, I was told, we were not moving much so blood clots. Were those patients given thinners as a matter of course?

Maybe due to all the new medications used? Or the new combination of medication, as no one knows what works, so all doctors are trying things out to see what works.

In light of this if someone has had a PE & DVT & also has the blood condition Factor 5 Leiden, which increases the chance of clotting. Should they not be included as high risk & therefore be shielded?

No shit sherlock

Impaired lung functions, damaged organs, blood clots... Always more evidence against the insane herd immunity/take it on the chin insanity.

Is this only happened to the patients of UK hospital? If yes then due to mutation the nature of Covid19UK is more dangerous here than anywhere. If yes then UK may need for a special plan-otherwise if similar data come from other countries hospital patient then it's absolutely OK

Immobile probably the cause. Not so much when they recover and the physio can get them up and about

Why can't the BBC just....

If a country wanted to spread a virus around the world to cause mayhem, knowing they had a cure, then why not put it in anti-perspirant aerosols and sell them around the world. COVID19

Isn’t it becaise people in hospital are so ill they can’t move about ?

BBC daily reminder that we going to all die. Apocalypse

You would too if you were sedated and left to suck oxygen for days.

But don’t be concerned about going to hospital for stroke symptoms and don’t skip childhood vaccines. 🙄

It’s over move on.

Oh good God! CoronaUpdate

A hypothesis on why COVID-19 patients are more prone to coagulation problems:

تتعامل مع الفيروس بالمضاد المناسب ومهم تعالج أعراض الناجمه عن المرض مثل تجلط الدم وغيرها لابد معرفه الحاله الصحيه كامله
