Waverley mayor Paula Masselos has disputed claims from the opposition that council is looking to reopen beaches in the eastern suburbs. Ms Masselos said this was "not the case" and that council was simply "looking at ways" to provide access to the water for ocean swimming and surfing for exercise."The Council has been looking at ways to manage restrictions at our beaches ever since they were closed on 21 March due to limits on public gatherings introduced by the state government," she said.
"The Council will let the community know when any further decisions have been made. We know that was coming. They tried not to mention covid19 so that Olympic can go ahead. So scary! Now that it’s cancelled, they are finally dealing with it. With a huge population of older people, hopefully won’t be like Italy.
They should have been more focused on the health crisis than the Olympics. They didn’t act fast enough to shut the country down like Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
