They shouldn't be open at all. Banning them would be a start. They're breeding grounds for disease, as the present crisis shows. What will come out of them, next

WHO should stand down from making any more statements. They haven't been very accurate so far

NYC has over 80 wet markets that average idiots don't know

Stringent food safety and hygiene standards.. OF WHICH COUNTRY

Ha ha ha

Who would need such advise from WHO?! Tell us something we don't know! COME ON, WHO, you can do better than this!

Nothing worse than copping a spray from the ole blood hose in Coles at the deli. Floor is slippery as hell too.

China is pulling the strings with the WHO. Therefore, making Dr. Tedros a puppet of the CCP. We can't trust this organisation because of the lack of transperancy. Fuck everyone working for this Sham Organisation.

This needs a bit more discussion

We’re talking China here. Shut down the cesspit!

After all that we have gone though, not once but few other pandemics too, we surely must stop these wet markets. No animal killing. Strict rules on black market trade should be enforced also. Livelihood of such sellers is at stake but surely they will find other means to live.

His favorite country will immediately disregard what he said and open their market regardless.

Just a reminder that some populations don't have access to refrigeration. Fresh food is live till needed. Also mass farming of animals is a source of new viruses. Ducks, chickens, pigs are recent examples of epidemics.

Now you say it? A medical report in 2007 by HK doctors said those markets were a time bomb. yet you don’t do your homework as a world body.

Get this JoshFrydenberg ? WHO didn't approve reopening wet markets in China. You lied to cosy up to Trump. covid19australia WHO auspol

With regular international random monitoring

Do not dwell on the trivial, intentionally or otherwise, evade the primary responsibility. Where is the virus originated, the market, or the lab? Why couldn't the virus be contained within the first place? Why have there been 2 epidemics originated in China 🇨🇳 within 20 years?

Sack him.!

Director you have lost my respect and and confidence in the WHO ever again. Good luck with that WHO all I got to say is WOW WOW WOW 👎🏾

Tedros should stand down WHO TedrosResign TedrosLiedPeopleDied

WHO - another victim of Covid

No shut them permanently its disgusting

How about banning the eating of wildlife!! Alot of the global population were hoping one good thing will come out of this pandemic. To stop the poaching & indiscriminate killing

Ban the trade of wildlife at these markets animalCruelty

WHO once again showing there true colours! Another pandemic is in there favor, why would they want anything else?

And who will be responsible for implementing that strict safety and hygiene standards ... China?

WHO No, they should be shut down permanently - end of story! No debating, no negotiating!

You are an arsehole mate chinaspuppet

Hope314342 Will Xi care about what you said ? IAmChineseIHateXi

This WHO idiot must be sacked or packed to Chinasasnewswho

These strict rules? Who sets and police's them?

Just on safety and hygiene ! Seriously what about the rest

Hell no

Live animals should not be slaughtered at markets by stall holders. End of...

China and 'hygiene' in the same sentence?

and who’s gonna police that Asians are grubby ! I’ve seen them on building sites shitting into buckets cos they haven’t wanted to stop work and come down stairs into a normal toilet on site.. deadset !

Comrade Tedros needs to vanish. He is as corrupt as they come.

Errrm, we’re talking of mainland China right?

Contradiction in terms isn't it?

Easy to say after the event . And what about the mentality that lies behind the wet markets , wildlife smuggling, bear bile farms , dog eating festivals , putting exotic animals in cages in malls . like polar bears? Being clean isn't the whole issue here

China is non compliant... these markets are high risk .You can not trust China to open these markets even under strict regulations ......

Australia's health system 'cannot afford' immediate lifting of restrictions | Sky News AustraliaAustralia cannot afford to lift its strict social distancing measures until the health system can cope with a large outbreak of community transmission of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, according to Australia’s Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy.\n\nAustralia has 6,457 confirmed cases of COVID-19; around half of those have recovered while 63 have died and 42 are on ventilators.\n\nMr Murphy told reporters on Thursday while Australia’s figures are “encouraging” restrictions cannot be lifted until its public health response gets “even stronger.” \n\n'Unless we are prepared as a nation to detect those outbreaks really early and get on top of them and controlled them and isolate the cases and quarantined the contacts, we could end up with large community outbreaks that could lead to situations like we've all seen every night on the Nightly News in high income countries with good health systems like the USA and the UK,' he said. \n\n'We can't afford to do relaxation until we have a public health system which is so finely tuned that it can detect and respond to any outbreak.'\n\nProfessor Murphy said one of the major reasons Australia's infection rate is so low relative to other countries is because of the early response during the nascent stage of the pandemic but the public cannot 'afford to be complacent.'\n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed said he has “no plans” to change the current lockdown measures for at least another four weeks. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia \n The hospitals are empty.
