Sydney's Bondi to Bronte coastal walk will be closed until further notice after large numbers of people continued to visit, despite repeated calls for people to stay home. Follow our live coverage here:

The global death toll from coronavirus has passed 101,000. There are more than 1.6 million known cases of infection but more than 372,000 people have recovered, according to the Johns Hopkins University tallyAustralia's Deputy Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly says Australia is probably on the cusp of slowing coronavirus to the point where it could die out

"Unfortunately extended families can’t get together in households either. That is something that I really want to stress," she said. "We are nowhere near out of the woods. The worst is yet to hit us. But the early signs are encouraging that the restrictions are having a positive impact. "Those tests are not unexpected given the COVID on the ship and I just want to stress that there is a combination of those that are recovering [from the disease], and as part of our recovery process, we are testing them for clearance as well as those who have got some mild respiratory symptoms," she said.

Walking route closed after people walk on it 😷😜

Eastern suburbs don’t like following rules, eh?

bencubby that path is an exercise route (essential activity) - FFS once again appalling messaging by the authorities - a month after isolation.

Hahaha 🍿

How do people not get it yet?

there are so few places left for people to get exercise, this is bound to happen. People end up in concentration wherever they can get to

FOR FUCK'S SAKE, AUSTRALIA HAS LOST IT'S REMAINING 4 BRAIN CELLS. WE WILL KILL WAY MORE BY STOPPING PPLE WALKING THAN THE VIRUS EVER WILL.

Why has used a thumbnail of Chinese people with their luggage for a headline about the Bondi to bronte coastal walk...? Will give benefit of the doubt that it may be auto populated from their covid-19 stream but please fix this ASAP.

make sure to show Asian people & not Bondi SMH ABCmediawatch

What is matter with these people?. Do they think the laws & rules don't apply to them?. They are endangering everyone with their stupidity.

Getting sick of the fat do nothing a holes, demanding everyone else sit on their arse to protect their fragile health.

They should shut down the queue for Iggys bread in Bronte while they are at it

Eastern suburbs again... Those privileged wankers with their state funded trams and climate change mantra can go and get truly rooted.

The people using it are not idiots. All the areas around the walk has a lot of units. People can go out exercise, so where do you think they go? Think before criticising.

Don't people understand or are some Australian's and some visitors just so dumb or is it arrogance. whatever they need to get over the idea they have special rights.

Idiots

'They were careless people who smashed up things - then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness'

Good

WaverleyCouncil paulamasselos Open the beaches then. You are making it worse, not better. You actually concentrated more people I to a smaller area. How ridiculous.

Maybe the M4 walkway should be closed along the Nepean River. Packed again today, everyone shoulder to shoulder.

You may as well do Centennial Park then. No different.

👍👏

Government really should bring in Martial Law and have check points around the coastal areas imo

The messaging is that people are allowed to go out to exercise. This is a high use exercise area. What’s the clear messaging? This is an absolute cluster fuck of mishandling by the governments.

There’s no room for complacency or for easing up the lockdown. The 1918 flu pandemic caused more deaths in waves 2 & 3 than it did at first outbreak. We’re doing well and need to continue what we’re doing.

They closed it because there were too many for social distancing to be enforced!

Just like after the fires we needed lots of rain ☔️ now would be good keep ppl from moving around & washing contaminated surfaces about 4 weeks would be good - thanks World 🌍oh & we are sorry for all we have done to damage you🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍 enjoying the lack of smog 👏

With new cases plummeting is it really necessary for the government to be getting more and more heavy handed? If we were heading toward a New York scenario this would be understandable, but we're actually doing extremely well.

Very soon all exercise will be banned.

Du bist verboten, du ziviler Schweinehund

The hysteria has embedded.

If they continue to close exercise areas, it will actually concentrate more people in the spaces that are left.

Peak Sydney 🙄

Coronavirus updates LIVE: Global COVID-19 cases surpass 1.6 million, Australian death toll stands at 54Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said 88 Ruby Princess crew members showing mild respiratory symptoms had been tested for coronavirus, and 44 tested positive. Follow our live coverage: Does the Cruise ship have 5G? Something to consider.. Can someone confirm for me. Chant said they tested 88 people showing symptoms and recovering from the illness, with 44 testing positive. Does this mean we have been double counting those who are 'recovering from the illness' Remarkable really, little real accountability and we have a Minister resigning for recuperating in his house on the Coast. What’s really happening?
