With a limited number of life-saving ventilators in the health system, experts say containment is the best way Australia can avoid a lethal COVID-19 outbreak.

Earlier this week Giacomo Grasselli, a senior Italian health official at the epicentre of Lombardy's coronavirus crisis, conducted an interview with the UK's Channel 4 to warn the rest of the world to do all they could to stop the spread of the deadly disease. The coronavirus outbreak has put the health system under huge stress"What happened in Lombardy is just like a bomb that exploded," he told veteran television host Jon Snow.

Professor Grasselli's job has been to coordinate intensive care units in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, where doctors are having to make difficult choices about which patients can access the health system's finite resources."This is a complex decision that takes into account several factors, not only age of course but also I would say biological age, so comorbidities, other illnesses, past illnesses, current condition, health status, frailty and so on," he said.

Professor Grasselli warned no hospital would have enough of the machines to deal with a large outbreak of COVID-19.

Take advice on controlling your citizens' wellbeing from an EU country? Um, pass.

With the brains trust in govt. and a chief medical officer with no personal expertise in virology/pathology, who's going against the advice and recommendations of people who are far more qualified, there's not much chance things switch up at this point.

DanielAndrewsMP Close the schools now whatareyouwaitingfor?

So what is Australia waiting for

Thanks to the quick action of our government, Australia is well placed to deal with this outbreak

ventilators would be rationed Those too old n sick they r clogging up

Why ? Who goes to the doc with a sniffle . Every doc has said it has mild symptoms for 99% . And don’t forget Tom Hanks is well so his son says .

Morrison is waiting for a sign. Such as bodies in the street.

All of a sudden closed borders become a great thing!

Wish AU governors can hear this

Scotty’s a racist - he won’t listen to the Italians. He’ll only take advice from the sky fairy (no not Rupert)

Govt taking 'sober and sensible' stance on coronavirus | Sky News AustraliaThe government’s decision to limit mass gatherings is a “sensible decision” that will ensure our health system is not overwhelmed due to the coronavirus, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.\n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison has announced mass gatherings will be restricted across the country to stop the disease from spreading exponentially.\n\nThe guidelines apply to non-essential, organised gatherings of 500 people or more, and would not include public transport, airports or universities.\n\nThere are 195 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Australia while 128,325 have been infected worldwide, resulting in 4,720 deaths.\n\nMr Kenny said while a lot of “smartasses” are trying to score political points off the virus, most of us “are acting sensibly”.\n\n“Lots of people in the cheap seats trying to take pot shots,” Mr Kenny said.\n\n“But for most of us, it is about acting sensibly, and for our political leaders it must be about acting in the best interests of all, on the best medical advice.” Greetings from Thailand, I believe schools are not closed for the virus, so why not let students into the empty AFL grounds next week for free? It would be a great PR exercise. Except for all the footy games this weekend maybe? China has to pay for this. Wet markets are the perfect breeding sites for viruses to jump species. Their lack of sensitivity towards animal sympathy and husbandry, borders on psychopathic.
