Have mechanism to protect patients' rights, minimise medical errors

December 23, 2019 @ 2:49pm:WHILE many are getting ready to welcome 2020, some are counting on recovery from medical comorbidities.

Even more devastating, the findings from the Johns Hopkins University showed that 251,000 deaths were reported each year due to preventable medical errors in the United States, placing medical error as the third leading cause of death. Improper healthcare services include wrong surgery, patient identity error, unintended retention of foreign objects and transfusion error.

Sadly, it is still advocated as an individual cause rather than a global cause. We are in a dire need of a patient tribunal. Even before the issues relating to medical errors are resolved, we are thrown into another battleground where free market forces are allowed to be the determinants of healthcare costs and services.

Segregate the duties of doctors and pharmacists.
