'Where women go, men follow': How Australians changed their attitude to dating | niltiac

In her time as the local head of female-led dating app Bumble, Michelle Battersby witnessed a shift in Australia's dating culture.

Bumble sets itself apart from other dating apps by insisting women must make the first move. There are no restrictions for same-sex interactions but men cannot contact women on the app."It attracts women who want to make that first move and men who respect that in women," Ms Battersby said. "It means from the moment you're matching with someone, there's a different tone for the conversation.

Bumble rapidly expanded overseas and in 2016 Ms Battersby, then a 25-year-old with a few years in human resources under her belt, was hired to launch Bumble in Australia. A year later, the #MeToo movement took off. "We wanted to do [the Melbourne Cup] because of the national reach it has," Ms Battersby said. "It's one of the networking events of the year and ultimately Bumble is a social networking platform, all about meeting new people."

She is looking forward to working with the founders, Steph Claire Smith and Laura Henshaw, and being part of the team that takes the Australian app to the world.

niltiac Do people actually think they will find a high quality woman on bumble or tinder? How funny!

niltiac Great insight? New insight? You have to be kidding! Men generally have a higher sex need. We know that or there would not be brothels and METOO. Men are more proactive.

niltiac What a ridiculous article. Non sense. Both Australian men and woman are desperate to find a relationship but their attitude and arrogance won’t let them. Starting with all the snobs in Sydney CBD.

niltiac No need to follow them..why? They will regret it in life when they can't find a man to marry..it's called karma..
