In a good year, the flu vaccine is 60% effective, meaning that people who get it are 60% less likely to get sick. The last time it worked that well was in the 2010-11 flu season.

For maximum protection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises that 70% of Americans should get the shot. In the last decade, fewer than 50% were vaccinated annually, and sometimes, the level dipped as low as 42%.

The flu is awful! Especially when you already have a pre-existing respiratory condition... like my allergies. I went to the ER twice last season because I couldn’t breathe. 😥
