The House of Representatives has decried the rising cases of suicide in Nigeria, calling on the Federal Government to develop a strategy against the trend.

At the plenary on Thursday, the House adopted a motion moved by Mr Chukwuma Umeoji, titled, ‘Increasing Rate of Suicide in Nigeria.’

The lawmakers also called on the National Orientation Agency to embark on sensitisation and advocacy programmes on suicide prevention. He also noted that people in zones where there were conflicts, disasters, violence, abuse and sense of isolation were more strongly associated with suicidal behaviours.
