Anne Peled knew the science on how exercise helps in cancer treatment—so she put it to the test.

every morning, ate vegan, got enough sleep. Before she traveled anywhere, she always mapped out running routes first.After a biopsy, she was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer.

So even though Peled’s regular exercise routine didn’t prevent the cancer from developing, continuing inBut that’s far from the only reason she felt that keeping her running schedule was important. “Many times, I felt good enough to actually go for a run after radiation, and that was very important, because it gave me a space of time between the treatment and going home to see my kids,” she says. “Every runner knows the value of a reset like that. And when you’re going through something like cancer treatment, it’s even more crucial.”
