The province’s 14 LHINs and six health agencies will be consolidated into a new super agency called Ontario Health for an estimated $350-million a year in savings

As a preliminary step in the process, Health Minister Christine Elliott announced today that five of those six agencies will transfer to Ontario Health as of Dec. 2.Trillium Gift of Life Network, which is responsible for organ and tissue donation and transplantation services, will be transferred later.

“We are still doing the work necessary to make sure patient care won’t be interrupted, but we didn’t feel that it was necessary to have 14 LHINs anymore,” Elliott said in an interview. Elliott said that represented most of the back-office changes that would be made, but “there may be a small number” of other people who will also lose their jobs.Premier Doug Ford repeatedly promised during last year’s election that “not a single person lose their job” under his government.

The other agencies transferring into Ontario Health are Health Quality Ontario, Health Shared Services Ontario and HealthForceOntario Marketing and Recruitment Agency.

LHIN personnel effectively saved my husband’s life this past summer. Those here who say LHINs are a waste of money don’t have a clue.

But the excessive bureaucracy needs to be checked. It bogs the system down many a time. As they say, the rut has to go. Many NFPs which are government funded want to emulate the private industry when it comes to remuneration but also demand job security. Need the right balance.

As a cancer patient, I see disaster in the making. Loss of my specialized contacts, with specific knowledge in areas of my care. Replaced by a single contact with reduced accountability and expertise. Regional amalgamation was also a disaster in my area... PoundFoolish

Would be good if you would do your jobs and investigate the Ford and Kenney Government. So many job losses for ass hats that promised no one would lose their jobs. Huge money losses, compromises to peoples health and welfare. WHERE ARE THE REAL JOURNALISTS

tax cuts for the rich and corporations need to come from somewhere.

Tammyocanada Have you ever done an amalgamation before. You don't fire people with knowledge until the job is done.

All with huge severance packages...

onpoli FordisFailing FraudNation celliottability I had high hopes for Christine Elliott to make Progressive Conservatives in Ontario a viable option, but she's thrown in her lot with demagogue Doug Ford. She may be the next Ontario PC leader, but I'll never vote for her now.

Good. LHINs were a waste of money.

But nobody will lose their job under fordnation

Toronto health board calls on Ontario to ban handgun ammunition sales within municipalityThe board also requested that gun violence be treated as a public-health issue, as part of nine recommendations made at a meeting on Tuesday Do these rocket scientists not realize that those illegally importing guns from the USA also get their ammo from the same place? Apparently the oblivious do not realize ammunition is non-specific. 22LR, 9mm, 45, etc are used in handguns AND rifles. Forget the fact anyone who wants to do harm can purchase it elsewhere (ie: smuggled from the US, just like the guns used by gangsters) So providing needles for addicts so they continue to be addicts is good but allowing law-abiding firearms access to ammunition for hunting and sport shooting is bad? Toronto is a moral cesspool
