Sky News reporter Annelise Nielsen says some ex-servicemen she interviewed in Townsville expressed doubts about the need for a royal commission into veteran suicide given “the government knows where the problems are”.

Scott Morrison this week said the government is “actively considering” a royal commission into suicide after five mothers of veterans who died by suicide implored the prime minister to initiate an inquiry. Ms Nielsen said some veterans reported experiencing long wait times to access services through the Department of Veterans' Affairs. “It can be a huge challenge when you’re already struggling with mental health issues to then have delays," she said.
