Janet Cohen has six months to live. She says it is 'absurd' she must go to Switzerland to access her right to die. She hopes MPs will meet with her and other members of Dying with Dignity before Christmas

Advocates for the right to die are trying to revive the campaign for voluntary euthanasia in NSW amid a fraught political atmosphere after the bruising abortion debate.

Janet Cohen from the mid-north coast of NSW is hoping Dying with Dignity will be able to organise a meeting with state MPs before Christmas.“The conflict that arose during the abortion debate shows that these sorts of issues are going to be difficult for the government in NSW, but we just can't sit on our hands and see people continue to suffer,” Ms Higson said.

Janet Cohen, 66, who is terminally ill with lung cancer, is hoping MPs will agree to meet with her and other members of Dying with Dignity before Christmas. She was “devastated” when the bill failed two years ago and wants politicians - even those already in favour of legislation - to “fully understand” the impact by listening to personal stories.

Janet Cohen will end her life through assisted dying in Switzerland because she can't do it in Australia. When Ms Cohen was diagnosed six years ago, she was a healthy and active non-smoker, running a rainforest centre near her home in Camden Head on the mid-north coast of NSW and regularly bushwalking with her partner Glenn Brewer.

TAFEeducation It's terrible but she could do this in Victoria

Poor woman. The right to die with dignity should be an inalienable human right. Stop forcing people to take drastic measures. Many people in agedcare don't want to be around. My mum wanted to go- but was forced to starve to death. It's inhumane and unconscionable to stop this

Presumably she didn’t follow the debate on abortion law reform in NSW and hasn’t therefore realized what a bunch of self-righteous twats many of our politicians are

Oh I’m behind her 100%. Best of luck in your plight Janet, I hope you win on behalf of all people who believe in the right to pass away with dignity.

100 % agree
