Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says the Government will do more to stop the drugging of elderly people in aged care homes, but stops short of offering details.

, describing the practice as"inhumane, abusive and unjustified".

Fronting the ABC's Insiders program on Sunday, Mr Hunt told interviewer Fran Kelly that:"We will be taking stronger action on those things." Referring back to Friday's COAG meeting of federal and state ministers, which agreed to make the safe use of medicines a national priority, he said:"The thing that we were able to do immediately, as we got the priorities, was to go into the Council of Australian Governments' Health Minister meeting and do what no Government has ever done, and take the issue of chemical restraints, to make the question of the safe use of medicines, a national priority.

"The understanding of the role of families, the ability to make sure that we have checks and balances, are critical."

Stop privatisation of the agedcare in the first place as health services and profit motives r mutually exclusive U don’t need no agedcareRC to tell u this it’s obvious auspol

Promises, promises nothing but promises for last 6.5yers,or should I say, lie after lie,lie after lie. But how Liberals don’t get sick non stop telling lies, or they are so intact with reality that they believe in their lies. But Australian people can see disfunction and corruptio

But he wont do a thing about money for home care packages till little Joshy let's him.😡

Once again we have a minister who shows his total ignorance of the situation The chaotic aged care system needs a helluva lot more than a few poorly chosen words. A systematic measurable corrective action plan is needed. Not a knee jerk reaction to one single issue.

will the honourable health minister hunt also stop political donations from the drug corporations as well.

No doubt there are issues related to aged care and shortcomings in respect to government support but why are these issues being reported by the media as being something applying to all aged care facilities. Why is there no acknowledgment of the majority doing the right thing.

funny thing. you reported so many hk protests but none regarding what is happening in New York.

So health minister Hunt does have responsibility for Aged Care Medical Treatment! Does that also include a responsibility for the elderly people on waiting lists that died before getting their assessed and authorised packages? Does that make him liable? Because funding was cut!

What else does he pledge?

Whatever is done needs to be done in the interests the person and not dictated by market economics or distorted by shareholder interests. We all need to pay up for decency Real properly funded care as the first priority.

I'll tell you what I'm amazed about- that we still call our country first world. I still get asked if I'm Australian and Ive paid over 300,000 in tax so far. Australia doesn't feel like home it feels more like Housos. Pretty good show though I'd have to say. Well directed

Fuck, does that mean no more washing oldies with Kerosene, like they did when Bronwyn Bishop was the Minister in charge of the oldies.😬 The LNP have a shocking record on aged care.

good luck looking after aggressive dementia patients Mr Hunt

They should be defining viable treatment pathways not simply imposing restrictions then expecting the industry and the medical fraternity to magically invent solutions overnight to the problem of being more selective in behavioral modifications for demented patients.

Like their community homes around Melbourne they probably use ritalin or something similar to help stop disruptive clients.......you can tell their personality has changed in no time. Certainly is good for some in the community but to just save costs is criminal with others.

Saying 'We will be taking stronger action on those things.' is not pledging anything guys, c'mon!
