Public Health England says it has confirmed cases of tick-borne encephalitis virus in ticks from two parts of England - Thetford Forest and an area on the Hampshire-Dorset border.It is monitoring the situation to check how common the infected ticks may be.A tick is a tiny, spider-like creature that lives in undergrowth and on animals, including deer and dogs.
Tick-borne encephalitis virus is already circulating in mainland Europe and Scandinavia, as well as Asia.How it got here is less clear. Experts say infected ticks may have hitched a ride on migratory birds. Ticks are becoming more common across many parts of the UK, largely due to increasing deer numbers. Being bitten by one doesn't necessarily mean you will get sick.
There is a vaccine, maybe you should have mentioned this? Maybe tell them what it is (TBE) and how bad it can be? Get vaccinated if you are going to be at risk of tick borne encephalitis (TBE) Chances are small but encephalitis is not nice.

Tick borne illness is not taken seriously enough in Great Britain - if you contract limes disease but don’t have all the obvious immediate symptoms you will have all sorts of problems getting any tests etc - sadly this new disease could end up the same.
