Easier access to HIV tests and better medical treatment has led to a sharp fall in infections. But stigma is still a problem, says Nicola Slawson

It’s been nearly six months since Mark Arthur got the diagnosis that he was HIV positive after doing a finger-prick test at home. But within a few months, the antiretroviral therapy medication Arthur takes has reduced the HIV viral load to an undetectable level – and he can no longer pass it on.
