State Labor MPs staged a parliamentary walkout after Jodi McKay was thrown out during a fiery question time debate over elective surgery waiting lists in western Sydney

Speaking outside Parliament, Ms McKay said "we will be thrown out every single day if it means that we ask these difficult questions".

The Opposition seized on a letter from Dr Fred Betros, the head of the department of surgery across both hospitals, who wrote that he had been advised of a "planned reduction in elective surgical services for 2020 ... to bring the budget back from a significant overspend." “Why are the services to be reduced where the community is already the most disadvantaged … the reported direction represents a consistent abuse of a disadvantaged community in Western Sydney,” Dr Hanney wrote.he had asked the health ministry to discuss the issue with the hosptial's management " to make sure doctors' views are considered and sensible decisions are made".
