The flamboyant former Ryder Cup golfer Brian Barnes has died aged 74 from cancer after a short illness.
Barnes played for Great Britain & Ireland and then Europe in six Ryder Cups between 1969 and 1979 and won 20 professional titles. Barnes won the Senior British Open in 1995 and became the first man to defend the title the following year. "He was a terrific driver of the ball - long and straight - and if he had enjoyed travelling more, he had the potential to be one of the best players in the world."
