A federal judge is taking charge of Mississippi's mental health system, saying that attorneys for the federal government have proved the state isn't doing enough to serve people outside the confinement of mental hospitals.

JACKSON, Miss. — A federal judge is taking charge of Mississippi's mental health system, saying that attorneys for the federal government have proved the state isn't doing enough to serve people outside the confinement of mental hospitals.

Until Reeves decides on the special master's role, the depth of his intervention into the mental health system won't be clear. The U.S. Justice Department argued that Mississippi's movement toward community services was far too slow, forcing hundreds or thousands of people into avoidable hospital stays. Reeves found that Mississippi is violating the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as a 1999 U.S. Supreme Court decision that said"unjustified" mental hospital confinement is illegal.

"The United States' experts provided dozens of examples of individuals who were unnecessarily hospitalized or hospitalized too long because they were excluded from community-based services," the judge wrote.

I guess the GOP is finding out that paying lip-service to the issues that matter to peoples very lives & their quality of life isn't cutting it anymore. Not that they're going to change. They're going to look for sneakier & more sinister ways to lie to us.

We always hear about mental illness being the root cause of mass shootings. Well no time like now to vastly improve mental healthcare. Nationwide.

Another proud day for right wing government

Psychedelic Drugs Draw Some Investor Attention—and Much SkepticismA fringe group of entrepreneurs and investors see the emerging practice of using psychedelic substances for mental-health treatment as a business opportunity. Traditional health-care investors aren’t so sure. Everyone would have to admit invisible friends are real. Probably because they tried them as teenagers and they still scare the hell out of them. Can’t sell that many mushrooms, psychedelics are not ongoing therapy. A few good trips and you should be done. Low lifetime customer value Weed on the other hand...

Texas shooter got gun at private sale; denied in 2014 checkThe gunman in a West Texas rampage that left seven dead obtained his AR-style rifle through a private sale, allowing him to evade a federal background check that blocked him from getting a gun in 2014 due to a "mental health issue," a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. Officers I'm sure it was a registered Democrat that overlooked the background check.
