Rohan Marley, son of late legendary reggae singer and cannabis enthusiast Bob Marley, has announced his intention to open a medical cannabis dispensary in Montclair, New Jersey. If the application gets state’s approval, Marley will aid marketing and publicity efforts and contribute to the hiring process.
Although recreational cannabis is still prohibited in New Jersey , opening a dispensary for medical cannabis, which has been legal in the state for some time, became easier this past spring as the potential for adult-use legalization loomed. “In Jamaica, my family has long been advocating about the medicinal benefits of marijuana and its many pathways to treatment well before its medical and recreational legalization into the U.S.,” Marley stated in a press release.
Jersey is an unsurprising location for Marley to set up shop, as he has raised his five children with hip-hop superstar Lauryn Hill in Essex County. Cannabis and the Marley name are closely linked. His father Bob, who died nearly 40 years ago, was one of the most prominent devotees of Rastafari, an Africa-centred religion developed in Jamaica in the 1930s, which regards cannabis as a holy sacramentCannabis is not Marley’s first foray into the business world, having already founded sustainable, organic coffee company Marley Coffee. He is also involved in the family cannabis company Marley Natural.
