Children from six months to five years will be able to get a free flu shot from next year, under a new government scheme.

The vaccine will not be included in the requirements for accessing Child Care Benefits, the Child Care Rebate or Family Tax Benefits under No Jab No Pay rules.

The Families and Social Services Minister hopes parents of the remaining five per cent of children who aren’t vaccinated change their minds. Previously, only high-risk groups including those with medical conditions and pregnant women could get the vaccine for free. Image: Getty
