“I am a therapist who loves sneakers and streetwear, and I think that’s badass.”

In this op-ed, psychotherapist and style influencer Elizabeth Beecroft writes about how her mental health journey and love for basketball inspired her to enter the field of psychotherapy while still appreciating sportswear and style.

At one point, it became so overwhelming that my parents decided to come visit and stay at a local hotel to comfort and support me. Over time, the same symptoms kept coming up. My parents decided to send me to a therapist to better understand what underlying issues might be causing these panic attacks, which started when I was 9 and lasted through age 12.

Feeling as though I was never going to get out of the depression fog, I started seeing a therapist again. It was through these therapy sessions that I learned to be more aware of my feelings and figure out ways that allowed me to feel like myself again and move forward with my life. It’s because of these experiences that I realized I didn’t just want to be an advocate for mental health; I wanted to help people with a more hands-on approach.
