Outspoken about body positivity, the curvaceous performer said in talks with other clothing brands, “You hear things about your weight and your image. I think Bebe knows what I stand for and who I am. I’m very vocal about that. I love the fact that they were willing to ask a girl like me with curves who is natural.
She is the third recipient of the award recognizing women who stand out for both their artistic careers and their social commitment, following Salma Hayek and Julianne Moore. Starting her career as a pioneering model in 1975, Iman has developed skin-care collections designed for women with skin of color and has been involved in humanitarian work for The Children’s Defense Fund, Action Against Hunger and the Raise Hope For Congo campaign.
