So glad mine is over with, it was an awful distressing time - anxiety, restless legs, night sweats, day hot flashes, sleep deprivation & palpitations - all in my last year of my nursing degree. Wouldn’t have delayed it, there’s no convenient time for that hellish experience.

How about some research about something useful like getting through the menopause without feeling like your head is going to explode. Nobody wants a baby in their sixties.

God, no. My hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did for myself.

And why would you do that? What a bloody waste of time!!

Unless you've had cancer. Chemo fast tracked my menopause. 🙄

Why the hell would you volunteer for that? Instant surgical menopause is well worth the recovery from a major operation to be free of it all. 22 years of it was 22 years too long. menstruation is proof there is no god/intelligent design.

What the actual fuck. Why would someone want that?!

Why would you? Menopause is so liberating, despite the chin hair.

Rack off

Oh awesome. Great. Can’t wait. Brilliant. 🙄

Why would you want to? Many women feel liberated by the menopause. ‘Younger women may spend 30 to 40 years in the menopausal stage’? What? Basically till they die?! Another medical advance for women dreamed up by men? Curious about your thoughts on this one, CCriadoPerez

Oh Nooooo!

With the number of chronic health conditions experienced primarily by women that receive little to no research and funding .... this ... is a bit insulting. Perhaps menopause wouldn't be such a drag for some if we had access to quality healthcare our whole lives 🙃

ugh NO

Oh, yeah. Please prolong monthly horrendous cramps, menstrual migraine, mood swings, vicious lower back pain and every other horror that comes with monthly periods. Not!

Pity about no eggs. All gone by 40-55yrs. Girls are born with their allocation of eggs. menopause

Personally I would prefer menopause sometimes. I've had menstruation that lasted for 40 days within two months- it stopped then started a week later, and another time that was 36 days in a row.

Good heavens no! I was all 'bring it on'

Much rather have a voice in when to have a hysterectomy. None of the listed reasons make this procedure worthwhile enough to actually consider.

20 more years of worrying about your fuckability factor. Cosmetic surgeons get an extra 20 years of business. Win Win for women!

You must be joking. The best thing about getting older is no more stupid periods, no mood swings, no swelling, no swollen breasts... I have never been healthier happier or more carefree.

... because men don’t menstruate ...

I am fucking praying for menopause. When are they going to help us make it stop early? Now THAT would be a breakthrough. Fuckers. Someone who doesn’t bleed annoyingly every damn month for no good reason came up with this shit.

After 35 years of the excruciating pain of endometriosis, and numerous surgeries, menopause is a relief. I love it!

And that benefits WOMEN how? Cramps, bleeding, PMS, the cost, inconvenience worrying about leaks, buy tampons, for another 20 yrs. Why? Have kids at 70? Anyone talk to women? SMH. IF anyone thinks women are joyous about this, think again! Bet no one thought about us at all.

Why not put all the $$$ into research for making perimenopause easier and safer?

I ask my doctor every year if she can speed it up?

Menopause is one of the best things that ever happened to me.

There's a lot of commentators asking why despite it giving the reasons in the first few paragraphs and being bigoted about men being quoted. As well as help those who have early menopause it could allow women to have children later without having to compromise their careers...

But.... Why Maybe move it up 20 years instead.

Imagine possible horror besides never ending periods- accidental pregnancy when you already have teenage grandkids.Toddler tantrums at 70.... Must all be sponsored by Libra.

What the actual fuck?

Why, Is this sponsored by women's sanitary product suppliers ?

Wow, great research for the 6 women on the planet who might want it.

This is an attempt by male doctors to guinea pig women and make money from our bodies. Again.

I'm extremely happy that it's over and done with. Would I want to have delayed it? Hell, no.

Wait what? Why?

Why the hell would we want that?!

This seems perfect for one of these Women: Male Researchers: we’ve figured out how to delay menopause!

Here’s a journalism tip: When you’re writing a piece on women’s health, interview women. Interview women who work at that fertility clinic and ask if they’d want to delay menopause. Interview your coworkers, for crying out loud.

caitlinmoran, I really feel tempted to send this to the 'What are you going to with with those 40 years?' creep.

Which doctor from Gilead came up with that?

Where is the medical procedure to speed it up?

Why?

Great example of just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Good lord, why wait Could I please have mine now, like tomorrow?

Oh good Lord no... I've been dreaming of menopause since my cycle started at age 10.

Frightening. On many levels.

No thanks. Can’t wait until I’m done with periods.

Any woman who knows she doesn't want to have children should be able to have a uterus-only hysterectomy. I had to, no option for me, but let me tell you, it's the shizzle.

Why are you calling it 'the' menopause? It's just menopause. This article reads like it was written by a 4th grader. Also, in general, not a good benefit for most of the population!

Unless early onset, why

Ya’ll want us to have our periods another 20 years?!?! WTF is wrong with you? I’m clinging to the promise of my impeding menopause like it’s a life preserver

Why Menopause changed my life 100% for the better.

Who wants to go through menopause in their 70s?

Why would you want to? Someone mentioned early menopause, I haven't had a period since I was 38 and I'm thrilled with that. I suppose this was thought up by men

Did they actually ask women if they wanted to delay menopause?

Could this procedure be used to help those with PCOS? DrJenGunter , do you have any knowledge of this procedure?

No thanks!

Bs

No thanks! No crazy mood swings, no period, no mess....etc! Wth

So... we would still have to go through it, but at an age when we are quite possibly also having other multiple health problems due to old age? Menopause in my 70s? Don’t see the benefit myself.

Then you just feel crap 20 years later when you’re ageing and feel crap anyway!!! Better to get it over with!! Might be good for those experiencing early menopause though

Great. You can continue to breed, like there aren't enough people on the planet already, grandma.

Medical procedure? I don't see any medical reason for healthy people to delay their menopause.

Why? Dear god.

I'm guessing this will be for women who go through premature menopause.

Nope. Quite happy now that it’s over

Menopause is freedom. All the fear mongering about going through the change is another ploy to make women run to their doctors. Stay healthy and embrace your body.

Now they tell us

Who wants to menstruate all their life? That side effect is not even mentioned in the article and everyone quoted is a man.

Unless you have premature menopause why would you?

Who would want to do that?
