Comment: Private health insurance in a death spiral? Good. Let's shut it down | JennaPrice

As Duckett puts it, “If I don’t take out health insurance I pay more in tax than the cost of my premium. I have a 100 per cent subsidy for my health insurance when a person on half my income has a much lower rate of subsidy.”

Health care in Australia is, for consumers, a dual system that serves the interests of the private health funds; and, I fear, the desire of some doctors to be paid well., according to the Australian Taxation Office. Subsidies to private health funds and therefore to private medical care are subsidised to the tune of more than $9 billion a year and we have no evidence that’s value for money.

JennaPrice Lets shut down the cancerous public taxpayer funded health system and entirely privatise it

JennaPrice Not so. Would not cope. Even now unable to handle cases you lot of wankers. The Labour Party ruined the system by the elimination of Means Testing admissions. How stupid can we get with these so-called enlightened people? Introduce MT and encourage Private Insurance.

JennaPrice PHI can feck off and die.... unless it's making me avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge.

JennaPrice it is robbery

JennaPrice Nah. If I didn’t have private health insurance & complex mental health issues I would 100% be dead bc public MH services are basically nonexistent

JennaPrice The quicker it dies the better. It has failed and is artificially propped up because of tax penalties

JennaPrice I’m one of the rare ones who’s got their money’s worth.

JennaPrice Saved myself over $100,000 dollars by never giving ever greedier health insurance companies one red cent...what a ridiculous waste that would have been ..lol

JennaPrice For once...I agree with you!

JennaPrice I thought newspapers were supposed to report the news, and not tell us what to think.

JennaPrice PHI just like other insurance premiums goes up and your covered for less,it’s great when you really need it

JennaPrice The private system s not private. It's funded by so much public $$$ that's it's effectively a government funded two tier system. And there is never any mention of self insurance. You know, don't pay PHI, just pay specialists and private hospitals if and when you need one.

JennaPrice Medicare could do it, even if we had to raise the levy and we'd be better off getting rid of private health care. Dental must also be included.

JennaPrice They profit from suffering, what could go wrong?

JennaPrice I agree. It's dead money. I stopped mine 24 years ago and I'm not a bit sorry. There is far too much emphasis on private health insurance when all that matters is the quality of care; which is given in the public system quite adequately. They're all about greed.

JennaPrice I paid Medibank for years, then when I needed to go to hospital they wouldn't pay a cent. Public system got it done in in 1 month for $0

JennaPrice Private health insurance was tax deductible with no gap. What happened. 🤑🤑
